Career Academy Programs at
¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Ames Hunziker Center
The ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy located at the Ames Hunziker Center offers career and technical programs to high school students. It serves students from Ames, Ballard, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story as well as numerous students from other districts. Some of the educational programs include state-of-the-art facilities for the subject areas below.
Classes Offered
These classes provide area high school students with excellent educational opportunities. Most ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy programs are one year long (two semesters). Some academies offer a second year of programming. Students must complete Year 1 before enrolling in Year 2. Registration in these courses is handled by local guidance counselors and principals.
Programs Available
The Automotive Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in the automotive service industry. This technological program allows students to gain experience with shop tools, automotive engines, brakes, suspension and alignment. Twenty-five ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits are available upon completion of all ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy course offerings.
*Upon successful completion of all year 1 and year 2 coursework, students will earn an Automotive Minor Repair and Vehicle Maintenance Certificate

This program allows students to engage in experiential learning in the areas of Construction and Carpentry. High school students completing this program can go on to complete the college diploma program in two college semesters. Transportation to job site is required.

The Business Academy is an exploratory academy for students interested in the business profession but unsure of their path. Students are provided a foundation of business-related courses that will prepare them for entrance in multiple business-related postsecondary opportunities. Fourteen ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits are available upon completion.
These courses provide an introduction to the latest in computer science and programming. Eighteen ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits are available upon completion of all ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy course offerings.

This program introduces students to the field of criminal justice. They encounter project-based learning in Introduction to Criminal Justice and Juvenile Delinquency. They participate in hands-on experiences in Criminal Investigation and Criminal Justice Report Writing. Students begin career exploration through tours and guest speakers in Survey of Criminal Justice Agencies. Included is a college preparation course, covering such topics as time management, study strategies, and financing their education. This year-long program includes fourteen ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits.

This semester-long program will provide students the opportunity to explore careers
in healthcare and work toward CNA training. Seven ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits are available upon
completion of all ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy course offerings.

*Upon successful completion of HSC 172, students will earn a Nurse Aide, Certificate
The Teacher Academy provides students with an opportunity to explore education-related professions and take part in real-life teaching experiences. Students will spend a total of 120 hours shadowing elementary and secondary school teachers during portions of their assigned class time. Courses fulfill Level I Field Experience requirement at many four-year colleges.
This program allows students to engage in experiential learning in the area of welding. Students will learn a variety of skills and processes in several methods of joining metals. A total of 10 ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app credits are available upon completion of all ¼ø»ÆÊ¦app Career Academy course offerings.
