You may be further along on your path to graduation than you know and have college credits, called Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), in the bank.

If any of the following apply to you, you may be eligible for CPL, speeding up your program completion and reducing the cost of your education:

  • Earned college credits from another institution in the US or abroad
  • Exam scores from programs like:
    • Departmental Challenge Exam
  • Professional experience
    • Certificates or credentials earned from professional workshops, industry training, or seminars
    • Course completion through Workforce Development or Continuing Education
    • Past experiences or skills applicable to your intended program of study
  • Education as a member or veteran of the Armed Services

鉴黄师app awards Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) gained through a variety of life experiences. CPL are academic credit for past experiences which you can use to meet your degree requirements and reach your professional goals. At 鉴黄师app, you may:

  • Earn up to 50% of a program鈥檚 required credit through a Credit for Prior Learning pathway.
  • Use all CPL to help satisfy your degree, diploma or certificate program requirements with the exception of 鉴黄师app鈥檚 residency requirement for graduation.

CPL awarded at 鉴黄师app:

  • Are based on how the credit is earned and associated processing fees
  • Are based on 鉴黄师app鈥檚 policy in effect when you request CPL
    鈥 Cannot be used to meet the enrollment requirement for government-funded financial aid programs or resident credit requirements for graduation
  • May not transfer to another college or university
  • Will not be granted if it duplicates credit for a course already taken, passed or failed

鉴黄师app may accept transfer credit from institutions which are accredited by a member of the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) to meet general education requirements needed for admission or degree purposes.

  • You may apply up to 43 semester credit hours of transfer credit toward degree requirements.
  • The total GPA (grade point average) of credits transferred to 鉴黄师app must equal 2.0 or higher.
  • Grades earned at other colleges or universities will not be included in your GPA at 鉴黄师app.
  • Official transcripts must be mailed to us from your college, bearing the official seal and signature of the official in charge of the records

To transfer previously earned college credit, request that an official transcript be sent directly to the 鉴黄师app Admissions Office by each college or university you previously attended to:

Credit by departmental examination (Challenge Test) is a means of granting alternative credit by satisfactorily demonstrating subject-matter competency through an approved examination developed, administered, and evaluated by college faculty.

Students who pass an officially approved 鉴黄师app Challenge Test can get credit on their transcript without taking the class.

  1. Review the current list of active and approved 鉴黄师app Challenge Tests.
  2. To start the approval process, complete the first page of the .
  3. The form is routed to Academic Records to determine eligibility.
    • If approved, the Challenge Test Request form routes to Student Accounts where students are assessed a $50 non-refundable administration fee.
    • If not approved, the student will be notified by email.
  4. Once the fee is paid, the appropriate department is notified.
  5. Testing Center staff or faculty will contact the student to arrange a test date and time.
  6. After completion of the test and grading, the student will be notified of the result in writing. (Grading occurs within 10 days of test date). The passing grade for the Challenge Test is determined by the program.
  7. Upon receiving a passing grade, the student will be notified that they may use the credits as pre-requisites for appropriate higher-level coursework. Registration may override the prior course requirement until the earned credits have been transcribed. Credit processing does not occur until the end of the academic term to avoid financial aid disruptions.
    • The credit is recorded on the student鈥檚 transcript with a grade of 鈥淭鈥 at the end of the term when final grades are posted and will not be calculated in the student鈥檚 GPA.
  8. If the student fails the Challenge Test while enrolled in the equivalent course, they may remain in the course. The student will be notified in writing within 10 days of the test date. Once notified, the student may appeal the decision to the Pathway Chair. The appeal must be made in writing and submitted within 10 business days of the denial date.

鈥媃ou may be eligible for college credit for your professional life experience. These 鈥渃redits by experience鈥 could come from:

  • Earned professional certifications and licensures from non-collegiate institutions
  • Mastery of equivalent competencies through work experiences and non-credit training or coursework

Only credit that can be applied toward your degree requirements will be transcribed. Credit earned by examination will appear as 鈥淟鈥 (for experiential learning) and will not be used to figure your GPA. You can apply credits earned by examination toward a degree, diploma, or certificate from 鉴黄师app. You have until the last date to withdraw of Part of Term 1 to submit Credit for Experience and ensure credit is awarded on your final transcript.

Certifications and Licensures

鉴黄师app鈥檚 Credit for Prior Learning Crosswalk (currently under development) will hel鈥媝 you determine which of your licenses and certifications may be eligible for credit. Licenses and certifications must be unexpired when you apply.

Credit is awarded using the American Council on Education鈥檚 College Credit Recommendation Service, the ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services, or other approved organizations.

Equivalent Non-Credit Experience

You may feel your experiences and training are worthy of college credit 鈥 and you can prove it. 鉴黄师app consults with the American Council of Education (ACE), the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS), and the Council of Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) for guidance in the development of competency-based pathways between non-credit coursework and their credit equivalencies, giving students like you a path forward.

Credit for Non-Credit Experience Process & Appeals Process

鈥婭f you completed courses while a member of the Armed Services, those courses could qualify for college credit. The American Council of Education (ACE) has evaluated many courses taken as part of military service, and 鉴黄师app uses their published recommendations to award credit for these courses.

Treated as equivalent to a collegiate transcript, credit will be immediately be transcribed as equivalent to 鉴黄师app鈥檚 program. The process of receiving credit depending on the branch of service.

  • Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines: Order your (JST) and have it sent directly to 鉴黄师app. Correct any missing courses through your armed services branch and JST.
  • Air Force: Order an official transcript from the Community College of the Air Force and have it to 鉴黄师app. Credits will be evaluated from the transcript.
  • Military transcripts unavailable? Submit your DD 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) in addition to Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and copies of non-commissioned officer enlisted evaluations.


Reverse Credit Transfer

If you earned credits at 鉴黄师app, but transferred to a four-year college or university before completing your Associate Degree, you may be able to transfer those credits back and earn an Associate鈥檚 Degree from 鉴黄师app with little to no effort.

It鈥檚 called Reverse Credit Transfer.

The Reverse Credit Transfer process gives students pursuing a four-year degree a way to earn an Associate鈥檚 Degree from 鉴黄师app based on a combination of their previous work at 鉴黄师app and current course work at a four-year institution. Note, the four-year institution must be accredited by a member of the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) in order to Reverse Transfer back to 鉴黄师app.

Here鈥檚 how Reverse Credit Transfer can work for you:

  • Earn your Associate鈥檚 Degree while working on your Bachelor鈥檚 Degree
  • Let your current courses satisfy any remaining 鉴黄师app Associate鈥檚 Degree requirements
  • Pay nothing or very little additional money to receive the Associate鈥檚 Degree you started

  • Contact a 鉴黄师app advisor to determine what degree/emphasis you鈥檙e on track to earn and what, if any, additional courses you need for the Associate鈥檚 Degree.
  • Update your application for admission if you have been away from 鉴黄师app for more than two years.
  • Have your current four-year college or university send your transcript directly to 鉴黄师app.

Transfer Details

  • You must successfully complete a minimum of 21 credits, 鈥媋pplicable to the 64 credit associate's degree at 鉴黄师app,鈥 to be eligible for the Reverse Credit Transfer, and
  • N鈥媜 more than 43 semester credit hours of transfer credit is applicable toward degree requirements at 鉴黄师app.
  • The total grade point average (GPA) of credits transferred to 鉴黄师app must equal 2.0 or higher. Since your grade point average is calculated from 鉴黄师app course work only, grades earned at other colleges or universities will not be used as part of your 鉴黄师app GPA.
